В брачную ночь слон подвернул ногу, упал, ударился и остался лежать бездыханным.
Человек, намеревавшийся стать учеником, сказал Дхун-Нуну Египтянину:
— Превыше всего в этом мире я хочу быть принятым на Путь Истины.
Дхун-Нун сказал ему:
Как-то разговорились два бедняка.
— Плохие настали времена, — жаловался один другому.
— Что ты! — возразил его товарищ, — Сейчас не так уж плохо. Но придёт время, когда жить будет совсем невмоготу.
— Когда это случится?
Один олень заболел и свалился с горы в долину. Но братья не оставили больного в беде и часто навещали его. Однако при этом они лакомились травой, которая росла в долине. Когда олень выздоровел и встал на ноги, он вскоре подох от голода.
Некий человек по имени Аэль имел дом, а также землю перед домом своим. И тернии росли на этой земле, ибо хозяин её не следил за ней. Каждый год роняли тернии семена свои на землю ту и в другой год вновь зарастали владения Аэля.
Забеспокоился Аэль: у других сады цветут и радуют проходящих мимо людей. На его же дом и сад никто и взирать не хочет, люди всего лишь быстро проходят мимо.
Однажды ученик подошёл к учителю и спросил:
— Учитель, почему все растения начинают расти из столь мелких семян, но только деревья вырастают такими высокими и огромными? Ведь все они получают одинаковое количество солнечного света и тепла.
После смерти Авель увидел Каина. Они шли по пустыне, высокие, и видно их было издалека. Они сели на землю, развели костёр и согрели себе еду. Молчали, как всякий уставший после долгого трудного дня.

Учитель подобен хозяину дома. Те, кто пытаются изучать Путь – его гости. Эти люди никогда прежде не бывали в домах, и плохо представляют себе, что это такое. Но, как бы то ни было, дом есть дом.
Когда гости входят в дом и видят место, предназначенное для сидения, они спрашивают, что это такое. Им отвечают: "Это место, где сидят". Гости усаживаются на стулья, не вполне, однако, понимая назначение стульев.

Жил когда-то в Бухаре богатый и щедрый человек. Он достиг весьма высокой ступени в духовной иерархии, за что ему был присвоен титул Президент Мира. Ежедневно к его дому толпами стекались люди, и он щедро одаривал их золотом. Для каждой категории людей – вдов, больных и т.д. – он назначал определенные дни приема, в которые они получали от него причитающиеся им милости. Но свою щедрость Президент Мира ограничивал одним условием: тот, кто произносил в его доме хоть слово, ничего не получал.
Не все люди могли хранить молчание.
Однажды,
Жил некогда один мудрый и добрый человек, который владел большим домом. Он часто отправлялся в продолжительные путешествия и в таких случаях оставлял дом на попечение своих слуг.
Особенностью этих людей была какая-то поразительная забывчивость. Так, например, временами они забывали, зачем их оставили в доме, по нескольку раз выполняли одно и то же дело или полагали, что должны выполнять свои обязанности не так, как им предписывали правила. Все это происходило потому, что они забывали свои функции.
Однажды, когда
Хромой человек однажды вошел в сераль (постоялый двор) и устроился там среди других посетителей.
"Из-за моей хромоты я лишен возможности быстро передвигаться, и не успею на султанский пир", – сказал он своему соседу.
Человек, к которому он обратился, поднял голову и сказал:
– Я тоже приглашен на пир, но мне еще труднее попасть туда, чем тебе, потому что я слеп и не вижу дороги.
Тут в их разговор вмешался третий посетитель. Он сказал:
Изучение человека включает в себя три науки. Первая – это наука обычного знания; вторая – наука необычных духовных состояний, часто называемых экстазом, и, наконец, третья и наиболее важная наука – наука истинной реальности: наука, занимающаяся изучением того, что неизмеримо выше предметов изучения первых двух наук.
Только реальное внутреннее знание составляет знание науки истинной реальности. Первые же две науки лишь отражают, каждая по-своему, третью науку. Они почти бесполезны без нее.
